Azerbaijani speech to text on iPhone

Updated 29 September 2026

Short answer: iPhone dictation and WhatsApp transcripts do not support Azerbaijani, so neither can turn an Azerbaijani voice message or recording into text. Wascripts can: it transcribes Azerbaijani speech, including the Russian and English words people mix in mid-sentence, and marks the tone in the text.

What works and what does not

ToolAzerbaijaniExisting recordingsTone and pauses
iPhone dictation (the keyboard microphone)NoNo, live speech onlyNo
WhatsApp transcriptsNoWhatsApp voice messages onlyNo
WascriptsYesYes: share, record or choose a fileYes, in square brackets

Apple lists Azerbaijani among iPhone's keyboard languages, so you can type it, but not among its dictation languages, so iPhone does not recognise it as speech. WhatsApp's transcript languages did not include Azerbaijani either as of September 2026.

How to transcribe Azerbaijani audio with Wascripts

  1. From WhatsApp or another app: press and hold the voice message, tap Forward, tap the share icon and choose Wascripts. Tap the notification that follows. Step-by-step with screenshots.
  2. Recording in the app: tap "Record a voice note" on the home screen.
  3. An existing file: tap "Choose an audio file". wav, mp3, m4a, aac, ogg and opus all work.

An example

A real Azerbaijani voice message, as Wascripts wrote it:

[sakit, bir qədər tərəddüdlü ton] Salam. Sabahkı görüş haqqında [qısa fasilə] bir az fikirləşdim, açığı fikrim dəyişdi. [gülür] Axşam zəng edərəm.

In English: "[calm, slightly hesitant tone] Hi. I've been thinking a bit about tomorrow's meeting [short pause], and honestly I've changed my mind. [laughs] I'll call you this evening." The translation is ours, for this page; Wascripts itself does not translate.

Wascripts is on the App Store for iPhone. Your first five voice notes are free, with no account, card or email address required.

Questions

Is the app itself in Azerbaijani?

Yes. The interface is available in English, Azerbaijani and Turkish.

Does it handle mixed Azerbaijani, Russian and English?

It is tuned for the way Azerbaijani is actually spoken, including Russian and English words in the middle of a sentence.

What happens to the recording?

It is sent to the server to be transcribed and deleted as soon as the text is ready. The transcript stays on your phone. See the privacy policy.

How much does it cost?

The first five voice notes are free. After that there is a subscription or one-off credit packs; see pricing.
